Containers

  • Apply 2–3 tablespoons per gallon of soil, mixing into the top 2 inches of soil.
  • To maintain existing containers, water thoroughly and allow the water to absorb before feeding for best results.

Preparing New Garden Beds and Plantings

  • Mix 1 pound (3 cups) of fertilizer per 5 square feet of garden space.
  • Apply in early spring or late fall.
  • Work the fertilizer into the soil to a depth of 3 inches, then water thoroughly before planting.

Top-Dressing Established Garden Beds and Plantings

  • Combine 2 pounds (6 cups) of fertilizer per 10 square feet of garden area.
  • Apply after the last freeze.
  • Work into the soil to a depth of 3 inches and water thoroughly.

For best results be sure the fertilizer is in direct contact with the soil. Do not apply near water, storm drains, or drainage ditches. Do not apply if heavy rain is expected.
